Product Group Manager – Pet Food

About the role

The Product Group Manager for Pet Food will lead the buying team, manage supplier relationships and drive profitability across the product portfolio. This role combines strategic pricing, promotion planning and inventory management to meet sales and margin targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the buyer team, negotiate pricing, delivery and payment terms with suppliers.
• Set competitive pricing points, adjust prices to boost sales and clear stagnant inventory.
• Collaborate with senior managers to expand successful lines and phase out under‑performing items.
• Plan year‑round promotions, coordinate Makro Mail campaigns and launch activities with the marketing team.
• Monitor product performance, identify root causes of shortfalls and implement corrective actions.
• Source and evaluate new suppliers, conduct market research and develop new product opportunities.
• Manage inventory planning and forecasting to maximize profitability.
• Deliver financial results for assigned products and execute short‑ and long‑term strategies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain, Industrial Distribution or a related field.
• 5–8 years of experience in merchandising, category management or buying within retail, FMCG or wholesale.
• Proven experience with pet‑food products, supplier collaboration and product launches.
• Strong understanding of category management, assortment planning, pricing strategy and margin optimization.
• Ability to analyse market trends, competitor benchmarks and customer insights.
• Experience working with internal stakeholders such as Commercial, QA, Marketing and Sales Support.
