Operations Manager – Supermarket

About the role

The Operations Manager for a supermarket branch is accountable for daily store performance, financial results, customer experience, and team leadership. The role drives sales, controls waste, ensures compliance with health and safety standards, and leads a multi‑department retail team to achieve operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Achieve and exceed sales targets, gross profit margins and overall profitability while monitoring P&L performance.
• Oversee opening/closing routines, cash handling, POS system management and visual merchandising standards.
• Manage inventory ordering, receiving, stocking, cycle counting and loss‑prevention measures such as shrinkage control and FEFO/FIFO rotation.
• Recruit, train, schedule and supervise department heads, supervisors, cashiers and floor staff, ensuring optimal staffing during peak hours.
• Maintain high customer service standards, handle inquiries and complaints, and support in‑store marketing and community outreach.
• Ensure strict compliance with municipal health, safety, fire, food hygiene regulations and labor laws.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing supermarket or large retail operations with full P&L responsibility.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop multi‑department teams in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong analytical skills to monitor sales performance, budgets, labor costs and inventory metrics.
• Excellent knowledge of health, safety and food‑handling regulations.
