Assistant Business Development Manager

About the role

The Assistant Business Development Manager will support the head of department in driving new business opportunities and expanding market reach within the insurance sector. This role combines strategic planning, client relationship management, and team leadership to help increase revenue and achieve departmental targets.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and explore new business opportunities and market segments.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to increase company revenue and departmental growth.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with agents, clients, vendors, and internal teams.
• Lead the preparation of business proposals and presentations for potential partners.
• Manage insurance activities, including claims administration and agents’ requirements.
• Utilise insurance management systems for documentation, analysis and reporting.
• Develop and execute plans to meet departmental and agent sales targets.
• Recruit, train, coach and appraise team members to ensure performance objectives are met.
• Prepare and submit regular reports in agreed formats.
• Lead, motivate and delegate responsibilities within the team while upholding professional standards.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures and budgetary controls.
• Participate in special projects to support smooth operations.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience in the insurance field, preferably in sales or business development.
• Strong knowledge of insurance management, life insurance policies and related requirements.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
• High integrity, honesty and strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet performance targets.
