Retail Operations Manager

About the role

The Retail Operations Manager leads the day‑to‑day performance of convenience store locations, ensuring operational excellence, profitability and a customer‑first environment. The role combines process optimisation, inventory control, loss prevention and staff leadership to drive consistent results across stores.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily store operations, maintaining efficiency, cleanliness and compliance with SOPs.
• Conduct operational audits and store visits to verify facility maintenance, security and visual merchandising.
• Develop and optimise inventory management systems to maximise product availability while reducing waste and excess stock.
• Lead physical inventory counts, audits and implement loss‑prevention protocols to curb shrinkage.
• Monitor KPIs such as sales growth, average transaction value, units per transaction and gross profit margins.
• Manage cash processes including register reconciliations, safe audits and banking procedures.
• Mentor and evaluate store supervisors, cashiers and stock staff, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Design and deliver in‑store training on customer service, POS usage and workplace safety.
• Coordinate staff scheduling to ensure optimal coverage during peak periods while controlling overtime.
• Drive in‑store marketing initiatives, seasonal promotions and localized branding to increase foot traffic.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Logistics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of progressive retail management experience, preferably in convenience stores or fast‑paced retail environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple store locations is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with modern Retail POS systems.
• Proficiency in automated inventory management software.
• Familiarity with electronic workforce scheduling tools.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets for reporting.
• Ability to analyse performance data and generate actionable insights.
