Health Counselor – Mental Health & Psychosocial Support

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Health Counselor to deliver Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services in Northern Shan State, Myanmar. Reporting to a Medical Doctor, you will work directly with internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps and surrounding villages, providing counseling, awareness sessions, and emergency response support.

Key responsibilities

• Implement MHPSS activities in IDP camps and targeted villages.
• Organise and deliver awareness sessions on mental health and psychosocial issues.
• Provide individual and group counseling to beneficiaries identified with mental health needs.
• Coordinate with Camp Management Committees, village leaders, partner organisations, and health departments for smooth programme delivery and referrals.
• Develop monthly work plans and submit activity reports to the Medical Doctor and Clinic Supervisor.
• Provide technical support and training (including Psychological First Aid) to MHPSS volunteers and community health workers.
• Integrate MHPSS components into primary health‑care services with mobile clinic teams.
• Represent IRC in township‑level MHPSS working group meetings.

Required profile

• Myanmar national.
• Experience or training in mental health, psychosocial support, or counseling.
• Ability to work in field settings, including IDP camps and remote villages.
• Willingness to participate in emergency response operations.

Required skills

• Psychological First Aid.
