Generalist Project Manager – Water & Habitat

About the role

The WatHab Generalist Project Manager designs and implements engineering projects for water and habitat assistance in the MAY sub‑delegation area. Reporting to the Water & Habitat Delegate, the role leads needs assessments, project planning, stakeholder coordination and overall programme delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Initiate constructive dialogue with partners, understand project briefs and identify all relevant stakeholders.
• Collect data, conduct feasibility studies, prepare technical designs, BoQs and project proposals.
• Oversee procurement, contract management, site supervision, quality control and budgeting.
• Monitor project progress, anticipate risks, propose corrective actions and ensure timely reporting.
• Coordinate commissioning, handover and client training for infrastructure and equipment.
• Lead and support team performance through supervision, coaching and capacity building.

Required profile

• University degree in civil, structural, water, mechanical or related engineering; project management training is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing water, sanitation or infrastructure projects, preferably in humanitarian or resource‑constrained settings.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and interpersonal skills with a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.
• Fluency in English and the local language, with excellent written communication.

Required skills

• AutoCAD and GIS for technical design.
• MS Project, spreadsheets and other project management tools.
• Knowledge of engineering standards for water supply, drainage, sewage, electrical and HVAC systems.
• Experience in contract management, procurement and site safety.
