Business Development Manager – Japanese Market

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Japanese‑speaking Business Development Manager to join our team and work closely with the Japanese Corporate Sales unit. The role focuses on delivering tailored insurance solutions to Japanese‑speaking clients, partners and stakeholders across a range of industries.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for Japanese‑speaking clients, partners and stakeholders on behalf of AYA SOMPO.
• Provide customer‑focused insurance proposals that match client needs in manufacturing, trading, logistics, construction, banking, education and government sectors.
• Translate business documents, presentations and communications between Japanese, English and Myanmar as required.
• Facilitate communication between local teams and Japanese counterparts, ensuring smooth collaboration.
• Identify new business opportunities within the Japanese market segment and support the sales team in presentations and proposals.
• Handle insurance claims, queries and policy changes for Japanese clients while maintaining compliance with internal and external regulations.
• Offer cultural insights and etiquette guidance to promote effective cross‑cultural relationships.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in a Japanese business environment.
• Proficiency in both written and spoken Japanese and English.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
• Familiarity with insurance products, policies and claims processes.
• Experience in non‑life insurance, insurance broking or working with Japanese companies overseas is a plus.
