WASH Officer (Pool PNS Project)

About the role

The WASH Officer will lead technical implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene interventions in priority villages, ensuring compliance with Sphere and national standards while promoting behavior change and community ownership.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct WASH feasibility assessments and oversee construction of communal and household water systems such as wells, purifiers and rainwater harvesting.
• Lead sanitation interventions, including gender‑sensitive latrine construction and hygiene promotion campaigns using a four‑level multiplication model.
• Facilitate formation and training of WASH User Groups, local artisans, and Community Hygiene Promoters.
• Perform water quality testing (e.g., E. coli, turbidity), monitor functionality of infrastructure, and ensure regular reporting.
• Coordinate with protection, GEDSI, DRR teams, local authorities and other humanitarian actors to integrate WASH into broader recovery efforts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Health or related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in WASH implementation in humanitarian or development settings.
• Proficiency in local languages; working proficiency in English is an asset.
• Ability to travel frequently to project sites and hold a valid motorbike licence (preferred).

Required skills

• Water quality testing (E. coli, turbidity).
• Use of mWater or similar monitoring tools.
• Motorbike operation for field travel.
