Tax Manager – Myanmar

About the role

The Tax Manager for Myanmar will lead the company’s tax function in Yangon, ensuring full compliance with local tax laws and supporting the broader financial strategy of JTI. Reporting to the Tax Director South Asia, the role combines strategic planning, risk mitigation and day‑to‑day tax operations across direct and indirect taxes.

Key responsibilities

• Implement JTI’s tax strategy and policies for Myanmar, aligning with regional and global guidelines.
• Monitor and manage tax risks, proactively addressing changes in legislation or business activities.
• Oversee preparation, review and filing of all tax returns, computations, provisions and payments.
• Lead tax and customs audits, coordinate with tax authorities and external advisors, and manage any tax litigation.
• Identify opportunities for tax efficiencies and benefits, providing input during business planning and new initiatives.
• Develop and mentor the local tax team, ensuring continuous skill growth and performance.
• Support the Cluster Tax Director on cross‑market projects and initiatives as required.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in Finance, Accounting, Law or related field.
• Significant experience in corporate tax compliance, planning and audit management, preferably within a multinational environment.
• Strong understanding of Myanmar tax legislation, direct and indirect taxes, and customs regulations.
• Proven ability to lead a team and collaborate with finance, legal and business stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a proactive risk‑management mindset.
