Medical Underwriter & Claims Specialist (MD)

About the role

This position combines medical expertise with insurance underwriting and claims assessment. Reporting to the underwriting team, the Medical Doctor will evaluate risk, set appropriate coverage, and ensure fair and timely claims handling for Daiichi Life Insurance Myanmar.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments on new insurance applications and determine suitable coverage and premiums.
• Communicate with customers, sales teams, hospitals, and internal stakeholders via email and phone.
• Coordinate medical examinations, interpret reports, and follow up with accredited hospitals.
• Provide health‑care industry data to support product development.
• Attend underwriting and claims committee meetings and deliver internal training sessions.
• Report application and policy status on a regular basis and perform monthly quality audits of policies processed through Jet Underwriting.
• Handle post‑issuance underwriting changes such as travel abroad, reinstatements, and group business entries.
• Assess health‑insurance claims, liaise with third‑party administrators, and ensure timely resolution.
• Conduct AML checks and report positive findings.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and prepare for professional exams (LOMA, ALU, ICA).

Required profile

• Medical Doctor (MD) with solid clinical knowledge.
• Strong analytical mindset for risk evaluation.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with diverse stakeholders.
• Commitment to professional excellence and continuous learning.
• Willingness to sit for industry certifications (e.g., LOMA, ALU, ICA).

Required skills

• Proficiency with underwriting platforms such as Jet Underwriting.
• Experience conducting user acceptance testing (UAT) for new insurance products.
• Familiarity with AML screening procedures.
