Process Technician – Garment Manufacturing

About the role

The Process Technician ensures that sewing lines run smoothly by configuring machines, installing specialised work aids, and eliminating process variances. Working closely with Industrial Engineering and Quality teams, the role guarantees that pre‑production methods are executed flawlessly during bulk production.

Key responsibilities

• Implement physical machine layouts on the shop floor according to operation breakdown charts.
• Calibrate machine settings for each garment style, including thread tension, stitch‑per‑inch, needle size and feed‑dog height.
• Install and align specialised folders, binders, hemmers, piping guides and other custom attachments.
• Monitor hourly production targets and identify bottlenecks that affect WIP flow.
• Correct inefficient operator handling methods on the spot, demonstrating ergonomic techniques.
• Collaborate with the training centre to up‑skill low‑efficiency or newly onboarded operators.
• Prepare mechanical mock‑ups and pre‑set attachments before a production order ends.
• Execute rapid changeover workflows (SMED) to minimise downtime between styles.
• Validate "Right First Time" quality of initial pieces before authorising bulk sewing.
• Perform spot‑checks to ensure seam allowances, stitch alignment and tension meet buyer AQL.
• Enforce machine safety guidelines, ensuring proper use of needle guards, eye shields and belt covers.

Required profile

• Certificate or Diploma in Garment Manufacturing Technology, Apparel Production Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
• 5–7 years of hands‑on floor experience in a garment manufacturing facility as a senior line setter, technical sample maker or similar role.
