Assistant Chief Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Chief Accountant supports the Chief Accountant in overseeing the Finance & Accounting function of a fast‑growing retail and wholesale distribution business. The role ensures accurate bookkeeping, timely reconciliations, and compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations while acting as the deputy in the Chief Accountant’s absence.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Accountant in daily accounting operations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Reconcile General Ledger accounts for retail and wholesale channels.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Perform bank reconciliations, AP/AR aging, inventory and cost reconciliations.
• Monitor cash movements, expenses, inventory costing and budget utilization.
• Prepare and review journal entries for accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations (CIT, commercial tax, WHT, SSB, PIT).
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
• Analyze financial and sales data and produce management reports.
• Supervise and review work of junior accounting staff.
• Coordinate with Sales, Operations, Warehouse and Procurement on financial matters.
• Act as deputy for the Chief Accountant during absences and handle ad‑hoc tasks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional qualifications such as B.Com, B.Act, CPA, ACCA (part‑qualified or qualified) or LCCI Level III are a strong advantage.
• 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including 1–2 years in a supervisory or senior accountant role.
• Prior experience in retail, FMCG or wholesale distribution is preferred.
