WASH Specialist – DRA Project

About the role

We are seeking a WASH Specialist to lead water supply, sanitation and hygiene interventions for the DRA Project in Myanmar. The role provides technical leadership, develops sector‑wide strategies, and supports local partner organisations to deliver gender‑inclusive, high‑quality WASH services that comply with humanitarian standards and donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update water supply implementation strategies aligned with the overall WASH sectoral strategy.
• Design and implement sanitation and hygiene strategies for the project’s target regions (Kayah & Sagaing).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to WASH staff of two local partner organisations.
• Support detailed planning, emergency response, and recovery WASH activities.
• Develop or adapt technical guidelines, tools, SOPs and training materials.
• Conduct assessments, community consultations and identify WASH needs and priorities.
• Monitor field implementation, conduct regular site visits and ensure compliance with technical standards.
• Verify that WASH facilities, services and hygiene promotion meet agreed standards and are inclusive of all population groups.
• Strengthen partner capacity in quality assurance, technical supervision and experience sharing.
• Document technical feasibility studies, water source quality testing and microbiological inspections.

Required profile

• Proven experience in planning and implementing WASH programmes in humanitarian contexts.
• Strong knowledge of international WASH standards, donor requirements and gender‑inclusive approaches.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local partners, NGOs and community stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills, with experience in developing technical guidelines and SOPs.
