Senior DevOps Engineer – Platform Infrastructure

About the role

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the migration of our multi‑tenant web platform from AWS to a VPS‑based infrastructure and to operate the resulting environment. The role combines hands‑on cloud services work with self‑managed server management, aiming for a smooth migration, reliable operations, and reduced costs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute the migration from AWS to VPS, including Aurora PostgreSQL to self‑managed PostgreSQL, multi‑terabyte S3 media stores, and DNS cut‑over with minimal downtime.
• Operate self‑managed PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch in production – handling replication, connection pooling, backups, point‑in‑time recovery, upgrades, and performance tuning.
• Manage infrastructure as code across AWS and the VPS provider using Terraform and automate server provisioning, hardening, and patching with Ansible.
• Run containerised workloads – ECS Fargate today and Docker‑Compose or a lightweight orchestrator on VPS after migration – including scaling policies, right‑sizing, and image lifecycle management.
• Build and maintain GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, automating build, test, and deployment across tenant environments with Python or Bash scripts.
• Harden servers and networks, integrate security scanning (Trivy, Dependabot, tfsec/Checkov) into CI/CD, and manage firewalls, TLS certificates, and access controls.
• Implement observability using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki; respond to incidents, write post‑mortems, and optimise infrastructure spend.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering.
• Proven experience operating high‑availability, scalable production systems at significant scale.
• Strong background with Linux servers, networking fundamentals, and on‑call incident response.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS preferred) and VPS environments.
• Demonstrated ability to own production systems end‑to‑end.
