Project Associate – Debris and Waste Management

About the role

The Project Associate will support the Debris and Waste Management team within UNDP's Earthquake Response – Community Led Recovery and Reconstruction Project in Mandalay. The role focuses on coordinating operational, administrative, and logistical activities to ensure effective debris removal, waste recycling, and hazardous material handling.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate assessments and planning for debris and waste management activities.
• Support implementation and monitoring of debris removal, demolition, and material recovery operations.
• Oversee establishment of recycling centers and related livelihood initiatives.
• Manage hazardous waste, including asbestos, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Lead public awareness campaigns on safe waste handling and recycling.
• Provide technical guidance and logistical support to field teams.

Required profile

• Experience in project coordination or management, preferably in post‑disaster or environmental contexts.
• Knowledge of debris removal, waste recycling, and hazardous waste handling procedures.
• Ability to work with community groups, local authorities, and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational and reporting skills.
