Project Associate (Debris and Waste Management)

About the role

The Project Associate will lead the Debris and Waste Management team within UNDP's Earthquake Response – Community Led Recovery and Reconstruction Project in central Myanmar. The role ensures effective coordination of debris removal, waste recycling, and hazardous material handling to support resilient community recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate assessments and site visits to collect data on debris and waste needs.
• Plan, implement, and monitor debris removal, demolition, and material recovery activities following safety and environmental standards.
• Establish and manage community‑based recycling centers and related livelihood initiatives.
• Oversee hazardous waste and asbestos handling, ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Conduct public awareness campaigns on safe debris and waste management practices.
• Provide operational, administrative, and logistical support to ensure smooth project execution.

Required profile

• University degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in waste management, disaster response, or community‑based environmental projects.
• Knowledge of safety standards and environmental regulations for debris and hazardous waste.
• Ability to work effectively with local communities and stakeholders.
