Legal Specialist – Regulatory & Compliance

About the role

The Legal Specialist provides legal, regulatory and compliance support to Proximity Finance, working closely with internal teams, the Financial Regulatory Department, the Central Bank of Myanmar and external counsel. The role ensures that all business activities comply with Myanmar law and financial sector regulations while delivering practical legal guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal and regulatory advice to internal departments on operational matters and prepare regulatory submissions, letters, reports and applications.
• Draft, review, negotiate and manage contracts, agreements and other legal documents through the Contract Management System.
• Monitor changes in Myanmar laws, regulations and directives, communicating updates to stakeholders and supporting regulatory inspections.
• Assist in identifying legal and regulatory risks, support disputes and litigation, and coordinate with external counsel.
• Maintain accurate records of contracts, legal documents, regulatory approvals and corporate resolutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B); a Master’s degree or professional legal qualification is an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in‑house within a financial institution, micro‑finance entity or law firm.
• Strong knowledge of Myanmar laws and regulations applicable to the financial services sector.
• Experience dealing with government authorities or financial regulators in Myanmar is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience using a Contract Management System for document tracking.
• Legal translation and interpretation between Myanmar and English for contracts and regulatory documents.
