Chief Accountant

About the role

The Chief Accountant will lead the Finance & Accounting function for Bazaar Myanmar’s retail and wholesale distribution businesses. Reporting to the HR Manager/Head of HR, you will ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, and full compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily accounting operations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Manage and reconcile General Ledger accounts across retail and wholesale channels.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Oversee bank reconciliations, cash‑flow monitoring, expense tracking, inventory costing, and budget utilization.
• Review and approve journal entries for accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
• Coordinate internal and external audit activities and provide required documentation.
• Analyse financial and sales data to produce management reports.
• Strengthen internal control procedures and mentor the accounting team.
• Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Warehouse departments on financial matters.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (required).
• Professional qualifications such as B.Com, B.Act, CPA, ACCA or LCCI (preferred).
• 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in retail or wholesale distribution.
• Proven experience in financial reporting, tax compliance and team leadership.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, financial modelling, VLOOKUP, etc.).
• Proficiency with accounting software – Oracle, MYOB or QuickBooks.
• Financial analysis and problem‑solving capabilities.
