Area Operations Manager – Convenience Stores

About the role

The Area Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day performance of multiple convenience store locations, ensuring operational excellence, profitability and a customer‑first experience. You will optimise processes, reduce shrinkage, manage staff and drive sales growth across the area.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily store operations, ensuring efficiency, cleanliness and compliance with SOPs.
• Conduct operational audits and store visits to monitor maintenance, security and visual merchandising.
• Develop and optimise inventory management systems to maximise availability while minimising waste and excess stock.
• Lead physical inventory counts, loss‑prevention initiatives and shrinkage reduction programs.
• Monitor KPIs such as sales growth, average transaction value, units per transaction and gross profit margins.
• Manage cash processes, including register reconciliations, safe audits and banking procedures.
• Coach, mentor and evaluate store supervisors, cashiers and stock staff to build a high‑performance culture.
• Design and deliver in‑store training on customer service, POS usage and safety.
• Schedule staff to ensure optimal coverage during peak periods while controlling overtime.
• Coordinate in‑store marketing, seasonal promotions and localized branding to boost foot traffic.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Logistics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of progressive retail management experience, preferably in convenience stores or fast‑paced retail environments.
• Proven experience managing multiple store locations is highly preferred.
• Hands‑on experience with modern retail POS systems, automated inventory software and electronic workforce scheduling tools.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for reporting and analysis.
