Project Officer – Field Implementation for UNICEF

About the role

The Project Officer will lead field implementation of a UNICEF‑funded WASH project in rural townships around Mandalay. You will work directly with village water committees, local volunteers and schools to improve water safety, sanitation and hygiene practices while ensuring gender equality and inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Form, revitalize and strengthen Village WASH Committees and Water User Committees, embedding GEDSI principles.
• Facilitate community consensus on water tariff models, financial oversight and long‑term safety rules.
• Organise and deliver capacity‑building workshops on financial management, climate‑resilient water safety planning and basic operation & maintenance.
• Conduct CLTS, WASH‑IPC and DRR trainings for volunteers and sanitation entrepreneurs.
• Lead hygiene promotion campaigns, school MHM interventions and distribution of hygiene kits and water filters.
• Coordinate transparent beneficiary selection and smart‑subsidy distribution for climate‑resilient sanitation facilities.
• Monitor baseline surveys and field activities using the mWater digital mapping platform.
• Sensitise communities on protection, accountability, environmental safeguards and feedback mechanisms.
• Prepare monthly narrative updates, activity reports and beneficiary success stories for the Project Manager.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in humanitarian response or WASH field operations.
• Proven experience in capacity building, facilitation and monitoring of WASH infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of emergency response contexts.
• Bachelor’s degree in social science, development studies, public health, environmental science or related field.
• 2–3 years experience in WASH project implementation and community mobilisation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the mWater digital monitoring tool.
