Project Officer (Engineer) – UNICEF WASH Project

About the role

The Project Officer (Engineer) will lead technical activities for UNICEF‑funded water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions in Mandalay. You will ensure that water supply systems and school WASH facilities are designed, built and maintained to the highest humanitarian standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field engineering surveys, soil tests and hydrogeological assessments for water source development.
• Supervise drilling of deep tube wells, installation of solar pumping systems with VFDs, steel‑structure towers, GRP tanks and uPVC distribution networks.
• Oversee construction and rehabilitation of gender‑responsive, disability‑inclusive, climate‑resilient school WASH facilities.
• Perform strict quality‑control checks on all WASH construction materials against BOQ specifications.
• Ensure compliance with UNICEF Environmental & Social Standards, OHS protocols and Sphere standards.
• Maintain photo logs and technical site‑inspection records for audits.
• Provide hands‑on training to local pump mechanics, artisans and Village WASH Committees on operation, maintenance and water‑quality testing.
• Supervise third‑party contractors, coordinate with the Project Manager and technical specialists, and prepare weekly/monthly progress reports.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in humanitarian response or WASH field operations.
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience monitoring WASH infrastructure, quality‑controlling materials and providing field‑level technical support.
• Strong understanding of emergency‑response contexts and gender‑responsive, climate‑resilient design.
