Protection Officer – Prevention

About the role

The Protection Officer – Prevention will support and supervise the implementation of DRC’s general protection prevention activities across targeted locations in Rakhine State. Based in the Sittwe office, the role provides technical and operational guidance to protection staff and focal points, ensuring community‑based protection actions are aligned with DRC standards, donor requirements and the evolving local context.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning, coordination and implementation of protection prevention activities in all project locations.
• Provide technical guidance and field‑level supervision to protection staff and Protection Focal Points on awareness‑raising, information dissemination and community engagement.
• Ensure awareness sessions are participatory, inclusive, conflict‑sensitive and accessible to diverse population groups.
• Deliver accurate, timely and safe information on protection risks, services, referral pathways, rights and assistance.
• Identify gaps in protection information and recommend appropriate programmatic responses.
• Tailor prevention activities to the specific protection risks and operational context of Rakhine State.
• Coordinate and oversee regular protection monitoring, including FGDs, KIIs, direct observations and community consultations.
• Guide field staff in conducting monitoring activities and prioritize locations, population groups and information gaps.
• Ensure monitoring captures priority risks, access barriers, safety concerns, community perceptions and coping mechanisms.
• Maintain compliance with SOPs, ethical principles, confidentiality, data protection and other relevant standards.
